and CalWORKs Recommendations
In response
to an anticipated Fiscal Year 2002-03 budget shortfall for the
CalWORKs program and the Long-Term Family Self-sufficiency (LTFSS)
Plan, the Board of Supervisors on January 15, 2002, instructed
the Department of Public Social Services, the Chief Executive Office, and the New Directions Task Force, with input from the
community and advocates, to prioritize LTFSS projects and the
After-School Enrichment Program. On April 2, 2002, the scope
of the previous Board instruction was expanded to include the
prioritization of core and enhanced CalWORKs services. Additionally,
the Board instructed that the Commission for Public Social Services
be included as an additional stakeholder group in the process.
On June 26, 2002, the Board acted on the group's funding recommendations;
and in addition instructed the Director of Public Social Services
to reconvene representatives of the Chief Executive Office,
the New Directions Task Force, the Public Social Services Commission
and the Community Planning Group in January 2003 to assess the
circumstances at that time and report back to the Board with
any recommended modifications to the utilization of monies allocated.
