Introduction
In this section we list courses that fit the gaps we have noticed based on our ongoing review of research pertaining to the needs of the early care and education workforce in Los Angeles County. Some are courses that we have requested; others are courses that are recommended by faculty, students, and alumni at these colleges. In addition, we have listed accredited community colleges, colleges and universities (public and private) that offer classes and/or degrees (Associate (AA) or Bachelor (BA/BS)) in child development or early care and education and are likely to meet the education requirements of the Investing in Early Educators Stipend Program.

New Classes for Winter and Spring

UCLA Extension: UCLA Extension has developed unit bearing classes with the needs in mind of the
Investing in Early Educators Stipend Program applicants who already have a Bachelor Degree (BA/BS). The courses address the expertise needed for the child and family demographic in Los Angeles County.
The following are new course offerings in early care and education for Winter Quarter 2007:
- Role Play in Early Childhood Education (online course)
- Including Children with Special Needs in Child Care, Preschool and Kindergarten Programs (online course)
- Successful Transition from Preschool to Kindergarten (Click here for flyer on this class)
- Emergent Literacy
- Brain Development in Early Childhood
In the Spring Quarter, the following new course will be launched:
- Teaching Young English Language Learners
** Note: Only persons already holding a Bachelor Degree (BA or BS) or higher may receive a stipend for successfully completing unit bearing extension or continuing education courses.

Santa Monica College: Santa Monica College's (SMC) Teacher Academy (Educ/ECE) and California State University Long Beach (CSULB) are partnering to allow students to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Child Development from CSULB by taking extension courses at the SMC campus.
